Rank Exam Requirements - 3rd Kyu - 1st Degree Brown Belt

Next Rank Exam - 2nd Kyu

Central Minnesota Karate Rank Exam Requirements
  -4th Kyu Testing for 3rd Kyu-

For your rank exam, you will be asked to perform the following:

  I. Kata Tekki Shodan
(Judges choice of Heian Sandan, Heian Yondan, and Heian Godan)
 
  II. Kihon Single and triple punch.
Rising block - front leg front kick, same time back fist
  - reverse punch.
Outside block - elbow strike - reverse punch.
Knife-hand - front leg roundhouse kick - reverse spearhand.
Double front kick, beginning front leg - with
  punching combinations.
Double roundhouse kick, beginning front leg
  - step in reverse punch.
Side snap and side thrust kick.
Combination kick from front stance, front kick - side snap
  - side thrust - return to front stance.
 
  III. Kumite One step sparring.
Defense against upper and mid-level punching attacks.
Defense against mid-level front kick and side thrust attacks.
Counter combinations - must use various blocks,
  kicks, and strikes.

NOTE: Emphasis for this level is based on the understanding of hip vibration in the tekki kata. Definite rotating of hips in applicable strikes and kicks. Strong spirit throughout exam!
