Kata - Heian Shodan (Peaceful Mind 1) - 9th Kyu

 Heian Shodan Kata Video

Heian Shodan kata movements:

  1. Bow and assume ready position.
  2. Look to the left and stepinto a left front stance and execute a left downward block.
  3. Step forward into a right front stance and execute a right straight punch.
  4. Turn 180 degrees to the right, using the left foot as the pivot, into a right front stance and execute a right downward block.
  5. Bring right foot halfway back to left while bringing right fist to the left side of face.
  6. Slide right foot forward again into a right front stance and execute a right bottom fist strike.
  7. Step forward into a left front stance and execute a left straight punch.
  8. Bring left foot back to right and out to the left into a left front stance and execute a left downward block.
  9. Raise left open hand above head, step forward into a right front stance and execute a right rising block.
  10. Open right hand, step forward into a left front stance and execute a left rising block.
  11. Open left hand, step forward into a right front stance and execute a right rising block (KIAI!).
  12. Turn 270 degrees to the left, using the right foot as the pivot, into a left front stance and execute a left downward block.
  13. Step forward into a right front stance and execute a right straight punch.
  14. Turn 180 degrees to the right, using the left foot as the pivot, into a right front stance and execute a right downward block.
  15. Step forward into a left front stance and execute a left straight punch.
  16. Bring left foot back to right and out to the left into a left front stance and execute a left downward block.
  17. Step forward into a right front stance and execute a right straight punch.
  18. Step forward into a left front stance and execute a left straight punch.
  19. Step forward into a right front stance and execute a right straight punch (KIAI!).
  20. Turn 270 degrees to the left, using the right foot as the pivot, into a right back stance and execute a left knife hand block.
  21. Step 45 degrees forward into a left back stance and execute a right knife hand block.
  22. Turn 135 degrees to the right, using the left foot as the pivot, into a left back stance and execute a right knife hand block.
  23. Step 45 degrees forward into a right back stance and execute a left knife hand block.
  24. Bring left foot back to right into ready position and bow.
